The Souderton Area Youth Wrestling Association (SAYWA) was established in 1974. The organization has earned several championships over the years and has graduated wrestlers to the Junior High and High School programs that have gone on to place and win at the Pennsylvania State level.

SAYWA belongs to the East Penn Youth Wrestling League (EPYWL), a highly competitive and organized league that includes local teams such as Central Bucks and Quakertown and teams as far as Northern Lehigh, Lehighton and Pleasant Valley. In all, there are 19 teams, each with Varsity, Junior Varsity and Exhibition squads.

SAYWA averages 80 to 100 wrestlers each season, all of which reside in the Souderton Area School District. Wrestlers participating in EPYWL events range in age from K to 6th grade.

Season practices begin in mid-October. League meets begin in early December and run through early February. EPYWL meets are followed by league sanctioned tournaments for all levels of wrestlers, Varsity, Junior Varsity and Exhibition. Several tournaments are included in a SAYWA season and include SAYWA’s own annual Novice Tournament which was established in 1990. The official season end is late February. Practices continue in the post season to as late as April or as long as wrestlers are interested in post season tournaments.
